Senate Confirms Brooke Rollins as Ag Secretary

By Jamie Martin

Brooke Rollins has been officially confirmed as the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. She has outlined key agricultural priorities, including farm safety, disaster assistance, and market expansion.

One of her major commitments is passing a comprehensive farm bill that prioritizes a strong safety net for farmers. Additionally, she will oversee the distribution of $33.5 billion in disaster aid to help farmers and ranchers recover from weather-related losses and difficult market conditions. This package includes specific funds to compensate for livestock losses due to wildfires.

Rollins is also set to enhance global trade for U.S. farm products. Her appointment has been welcomed by the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF), whose President and CEO Dan Halstrom stated, “As evidenced by the strong bipartisan support her nomination received in the U.S. Senate, Secretary Rollins is recognized as a champion for U.S. agriculture and a powerful advocate for free market principles.”

She has also expressed interest in visiting North Dakota to gain insights into precision agriculture initiatives. These efforts, led by Grand Farm and North Dakota State University, focus on advancing farming technology to increase productivity.

Senator John Hoeven, Chairman of the Senate Agriculture Appropriations Committee, praised Rollins’ strong background in ranching, emphasizing that she understands the needs of farmers and has direct access to key policymakers.

The National Association of Wheat Growers (NAWG) CEO Chandler Goule also acknowledged her dedication to securing financial assistance for wheat producers and supporting rural America through meaningful agricultural policies.

With a focus on improving farm resilience, market expansion, and financial support, Secretary Rollins is expected to bring strong leadership to the agriculture sector.
