Raymond Yan, an agricultural and bio renewable systems management student at Penn State, recently participated in the Farm Foundation Round Table in North Carolina.
This prestigious program, which selects only six students nationwide, provides a platform for aspiring agricultural leaders to engage with industry experts.
As a Cultivator, Yan joined industry leaders, researchers, and policymakers for discussions on critical issues facing the food and agricultural sectors.
Yan also presented his own research, highlighting his work on projects involving water resources, conservation, and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence.
"Ray's an excellent student," said Suat Irmak, head of the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering. "He is engaged in class, asks good questions and often talks with his instructors about various related topics after class. He’s very motivated to be a part of finding sustainable solutions within the bioeconomy space.”
Yan's participation in the Farm Foundation Round Table reflects his commitment to addressing real-world challenges in agriculture.
Yan has actively engaged in various initiatives at Penn State, including co-leading an AI-driven research project on deer damage to crops and participating in the World Food Forum Youth Food Lab.
“The College of Agricultural Sciences is a big umbrella of opportunities,” Yan said. “Everything we put on our plates, wear on our backs, and fill our mugs and gas tanks with has something to do with the broader agricultural economy. Whether you want to be an operator, builder or marketer, there’s a place for you.”
