Pennsylvania's premier agricultural exposition, Ag Progress Days (APD), returns to the Russell E. Larson Agricultural Research Center from August 13th to 15th. This free, three-day event showcases the latest advancements in agricultural equipment, research, and educational programs.
Over 400 exhibitors from the United States and Canada will be present, offering a comprehensive overview of the industry.
A key highlight of APD is the Penn State Agricultural Safety and Health program's interactive exhibit. Focused on promoting farm safety, the program will offer free demonstrations on ATV safety, essential Stop the Bleed techniques (including complimentary Stop the Bleed kits), and hay hole cover construction to prevent accidents.
Additionally, they will distribute free Slow-Moving Vehicle (SMV) emblems for farm equipment and high-visibility vests for children (while supplies last).
The event also addresses critical biosecurity concerns. With recent cases of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) affecting poultry farms in several states, APD will provide information on the virus and its potential impact on human health.
While the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) emphasizes the low risk to humans, farmworkers should be aware of potential symptoms such as fever, cough, respiratory difficulties, and fatigue.
The program will recommend appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for farmworkers, including gloves, goggles, overalls, and N95 masks in situations where a flock is confirmed to have HPAI.
