Turning Point Land and Livestock is collaborating with Penn State Extension's Livestock Team to host the 1st Annual Flock Forward Field Day on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at the Berrysburg Community Center in Berrysburg, PA. This full-day event, running from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, aims to provide valuable insights into sheep management, nutrition, marketing, and diagnostic testing for producers at all experience levels.
Flock Forward Field Day will offer a comprehensive learning experience, featuring expert speakers, hands-on activities, and networking opportunities. Attendees will explore best practices for flock management, gain insight into nutrition strategies, and discover effective record-keeping and marketing techniques to improve productivity and profitability.
Key topics and speakers include:
- Flock Management Insights – Dan Morrical from Premier1 Supplies will discuss essential management inputs for improving efficiency.
- Sheep Health & Testing – Dr. Deep Tewari and Dr. Lore Boger from the PA Animal Diagnostic Lab will provide guidance on diagnostic testing and sample preparation.
- Interactive Q&A Session – Austin Brown, a Penn State Extension expert, will answer questions on sheep production and goal setting.
- Nutrition Strategies – Dan Morrical will highlight the mineral needs of sheep during different reproductive stages.
- Marketing & Record Keeping – Chelsea Hill from Penn State Extension will discuss record-keeping practices, while Nick Forrest from the American Lamb Board will cover effective lamb marketing techniques.
- Trade Show & Luncheon – Enjoy a locally raised lamb lunch, network with fellow producers, and explore vendor exhibits.
Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to tour Turning Point Land and Livestock's facilities, gaining firsthand knowledge of successful farm operations.
