Pruning Workshop at Penn State Extension Mercer County

Pruning Workshop at Penn State Extension Mercer County

By Blake Jackson

For anyone looking to gain confidence and practical experience in pruning, the upcoming hands-on workshop at Penn State Extension Mercer County on March 1, 2025, is the perfect opportunity.

Whether you’ve read instructional bulletins or watched videos but still feel uncertain when faced with your overgrown trees and shrubs, this workshop will help you take the next step in mastering pruning techniques.

Scheduled from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, this workshop offers a three-hour, learn-by-doing experience where participants will receive expert instruction and plenty of opportunities to practice. The session is designed to build confidence, allowing you to approach pruning tasks with precision and ease.

During the workshop, you’ll learn essential skills such as choosing the right pruning tools, understanding the best times and methods for pruning, and identifying which branches to remove and which to keep.

You’ll also discover the dos and don'ts of pruning, from cutting small branches to managing larger ones, all while keeping safety top of mind.

The class includes an outdoor session, so participants should dress appropriately for the weather, as the event will take place rain or shine. Please bring your pruning tools and any questions you may have. Note that fruit trees will not be covered in this session.

Space for this workshop is limited, and preregistration is required by the deadline of February 26, 2025, at 12:00 a.m.

This event is suitable for home gardeners, as well as those with little to no pruning experience or even gardeners with intermediate skills.
