Grassroots Voices Shape Farm Policy

Grassroots Voices Shape Farm Policy

By Jamie Martin

The strength of grassroots advocacy was on full display when American Farm Bureau President met with President in the Oval Office.

The discussion focused on critical issues impacting U.S. farmers, including agriculture policies, trade, labor, and pesticide regulations.

President listened intently as the Farm Bureau leader explained farming practices, the science behind them, and the tools farmers use every day. “Thanks to your grassroots efforts, our nation’s leaders are seeing that what matters to agriculture should matter to all Americans,” the Farm Bureau President said.

The conversation also covered the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which provides updated reference prices and risk management support. The Farm Bureau thanked the administration but stressed the need for a complete, updated farm bill to meet ongoing industry needs.

Trade remained a key topic. With new market deals like the recent U.K. agreement, the Farm Bureau pushed for swift resolutions on trade disputes and emphasized the industry's opposition to tariffs.

Labor shortages were another serious concern. The leader shared stories about the struggles farmers face with H-2A wage increases and the difficulty of hiring domestic workers.

The discussion also included the critical role of pesticides and ensuring access to tools for safe, sustainable farming.

The meeting included Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins and Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer, both praised for their support of agriculture. The Farm Bureau’s Council of Presidents later gathered at the White House, engaging directly with administration leaders.

This powerful show of grassroots unity demonstrated how farmers’ voices are heard from local communities to national leaders, making a real difference for American agriculture.
