The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is taking new action to protect the nation’s food supply. On July 15, 2025, Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins will open the USDA’s new Midwestern Food Safety Laboratory in Normandy, Missouri. This event also includes a major food safety policy announcement aimed at reducing foodborne illnesses across the country.
The new laboratory, managed by the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), will strengthen the USDA’s efforts in testing food products and ensuring safety. It marks a significant move to improve food monitoring and reduce health risks.
Secretary Rollins is set to reveal a new policy plan that focuses on stronger inspection rules, better testing methods, and faster responses to foodborne illness cases. The USDA’s goal is to make the food supply safer for everyone, from farms to tables.
Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe will join Secretary Rollins for this important occasion, showing the combined effort of federal and state leaders. The event begins at 2:30 p.m. CT, with media setup starting at 1:30 p.m. CT.
