Pennsylvania Winter Wheat Planting Pace Lags Averages



According to the National Agricultural Statistics Service in Pennsylvania, there were 3.5 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending Sunday.

Topsoil moisture supplies were 34 percent short, 61 percent adequate, and 5 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were 38 percent short, 60 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus.

Fall tillage was 38 percent complete, ahead of last year's 28 percent and near the 5-year average of 41 percent.

Corn dented was 97 percent and corn mature was 70 percent. Corn harvested for grain reached 9 percent this week.

Soybeans dropping leaves was 70 percent.

Winter wheat planted was 20 percent, about half as much as last year and behind the 5-year average of 46 percent.
