Pennsylvania Planting and Harvesting Lag Averages



According to the National Agricultural Statistics Service in Pennsylvania, there were 5.5 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending Sunday.

Topsoil moisture supplies were 30 percent short, 68 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were 33 percent short, 65 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus.

The state's apple harvest has advanced to 85 percent

Barley planted, at 40 percent, is behind last year's 63 percent and only half of the 5-year average. Winter wheat planted stood at 34 percent, behind last year's 53 percent and the 5-year average of 59 percent.

Corn mature was estimated at 80 percent. Corn harvested for grain was 17 percent, behind last year's 22 percent and the 5-year average of 31 percent.

Soybeans dropping leaves was up to 80 percent this past week. Soybeans harvested was 13 percent, slightly behind last year's 16 percent and far behind the 5-year average of 34 perent.

Fall tillage is 42 percent complete, slightly ahead of 2021 but behind the 5-year average of 47 percent.
