Pennsylvania Harvests Lag Average Pace



According to the National Agricultural Statistics Service in Pennsylvania, there were 6 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending Sunday.

Topsoil moisture supplies were 18 percent very short, 30 percent short, and 52 percent adequate. Subsoil moisture supplies were 9 percent very short, 30 percent short, 61 percent adequate.

Barley harvested for grain reached 75 percent last week, while the oats harvested was 15 percent, behind last year's 22 percent and the five-year average of 23 percent.

Second-cutting of alfalfa hay progressed only slowly at 68 percent complete, up only one percent from the previous year and behind last year's 89 percent and the five-year average of 84 percent. Second-cutting of other hay was 58 percent complete, the same as last year and only one percentage point behind the five-year average.
