The National Agricultural Statistics Service reported that for the week ending November 10, 2024, Pennsylvania experienced favorable conditions, with seven full days suitable for fieldwork.
Topsoil moisture levels varied, with 15% rated as very short, 35% as short, and 50% as adequate. No surplus moisture was reported. Subsoil moisture supplies similarly showed 11% very short, 30% short, and 59% adequate, with no surplus reported.
As for crop progress, Pennsylvania’s barley planting is nearly complete at 95%, up from last week’s 85% and exceeding last year's 81%. Barley emergence reached 60%, rising from the previous week’s 50%, though still below the five-year average of 77%.
Corn harvest for grain progressed to 67%, marking a steady increase from last week's 60%, surpassing last year's 53%, and above the five-year average of 65%.
Fall tillage work has reached 75% completion, up from 65% last week and exceeding the 69% five-year average. Soybean harvest advanced to 73%, slightly higher than last year’s 72%, though trailing the five-year average of 77%.
Winter wheat planting is nearly finished at 93%, with emergence at 60% both showing considerable progress over recent weeks and above past averages.
