Penn State Extension Offers Courses for Heart Health

February is American Heart Month, a time when the nation brings awareness to heart disease as the leading cause of death in the United States. To help make heart health a priority, Penn State Extension is offering a free, 12-week email series — “A Journey to a Healthier Heart” — that focuses on small lifestyle changes to improve heart health.

The 12-week journey is designed for anyone interested in improving their heart health; people with elevated blood pressure or cholesterol; anyone interested in tips for improving the heart health of someone they care for; and those interested in increasing their heart health knowledge.

Participants receive weekly emails for 12 weeks. Emails include meal planning tips, the benefits of keeping a food journal, information about heart-healthy food choices, and ways to reduce blood pressure and manage cholesterol.

The lifestyle practices of eating well and engaging in routine physical activity are central to reducing high blood pressure and the risk of this disease. “A Journey to a Healthier Heart” focuses on small changes to create healthy habits that last a lifetime. Making these important lifestyle changes can seem overwhelming; the email series takes a step-by-step approach.

Enrollment in the 12-week email journey is free. More information can be found on the Penn State Extension website at https://extension.psu.edu/healthy-heart-22.
