PA pork donates 5,000 pounds for holidays

By Blake Jackson

The Pennsylvania Pork Producers Council (PPPC) spread holiday cheer by donating over 5,000 pounds of pork to communities across the state. Through the #GiveAHam campaign, pork producers were encouraged to purchase and donate real pork to local food banks. Individual donations were made in Adams, Dauphin, Franklin, Juniata, Mifflin, Montgomery, Northumberland, Lancaster, and Luzerne counties.

In addition to individual contributions, the PPPC partnered with Leidy's Premium Meats to donate to the Central PA Food Bank. This substantial donation of over 3,000 pounds of pork will nourish thousands of Central Pennsylvanians struggling with food insecurity.

The Central PA Food Bank serves over 200,000 individuals annually and provides critical support to 1,100 agencies across 27 counties. "We are deeply grateful for this generous gift of delicious and nutritious hams," said Joe Arthur, CEO of the Central PA Food Bank. "This protein-rich pork will make a significant difference for families facing tough choices between basic necessities and food."

PPPC Board President Ben Barcovtch expressed his pride in the giving spirit of Pennsylvania's pork producers. "It's truly humbling to be a part of a community dedicated to giving back," he said. "The #GiveAHam program is a highlight of the holidays, and I'm happy to know that our pork is making a positive impact on families throughout the state."
