Pennsylvania College of Technology (Penn College) is gearing up to participate in the 108th Pennsylvania Farm Show, taking place January 6-13, 2024. This year's theme, "Connecting Our Communities," aligns perfectly with the college's mission to connect students with relevant careers in the commonwealth's key industries.
The event promises a vibrant atmosphere showcasing the best of Pennsylvania's agriculture, featuring the iconic 1,000-pound butter sculpture, delicious food court offerings, engaging youth competitions, and insightful educational opportunities.
"We're thrilled to be back at the Farm Show," said Anthony J. Pace, dean of enrollment and academic operations at Penn College. "This event provides an excellent platform to showcase our diverse academic programs and connect with potential students interested in careers that contribute to the success of the commonwealth's agricultural and related industries."
The college's presence extends beyond showcasing its educational offerings. Culinary students and staff will kick off the festivities by participating in cooking demonstrations alongside alumni chefs and culinary professionals. Culinary arts graduate Robert E. Wood and baking & pastry arts alumna Alisha M. Howell Summa will also showcase their skills during the event.
Throughout the week, Penn College representatives will be stationed at Booth No. 2406 in the Giant Expo Hall, welcoming visitors and answering questions about the college's academic programs and student services.
But it doesn't stop there! Each day, a different academic school will take the spotlight, engaging guests with interactive activities and demonstrations:
- January 6-7: Flood mitigation activity featuring emergency management & homeland security and civil engineering technology.
- January 8: Hands-on experience with diesel technology and heavy construction equipment technology.
- January 9: Horticulture display with Q&A sessions and free plant giveaways.
- January 10: Interactive laparoscopic surgery simulation highlighting the role of physician assistants in surgical subspecialties.
- January 11: "Honoring Our Heroes Day" activity hosted by Veterans & Military Services.
- January 12: Airbrush painting activity with collision repair technology faculty.
