Redding Launches 'Cultivating Tomorrow' Farm Show Panel Series

Monday, Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding will launch "Cultivating Tomorrow," a series of live panel discussions engaging experts from across the agriculture spectrum to delve into the issues challenging Pennsylvania's agriculture industry. Twice a day, at 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. through Jan. 15, a diverse array of panelists will explore the technologies, initiatives and investments that will carry the industry into the future. Viewers are invited to join the virtual conversation on the PA Farm Show Facebook page.

"This panel series is built on the foundation of what we as a state, in partnership with private industry, higher education and non-profits, are doing now and must continue to do to grow our economy and feed the world," Redding said. "We hope you'll get engaged in the conversation and the issues that are crucial to the people of agriculture who sustain our lives."

A summary of daily panels follows.

Jan. 12, 10 a.m. -- Cultivating Excellence -- How Pennsylvania's Centers for Excellence are Strengthening Animal Agriculture -- Pennsylvania is a leader in animal agriculture production. As animal agriculture grows, investment in dairy, poultry and livestock sectors remains critical to maintaining a safe, reliable food supply. Redding, Deputy Secretary Greg Hostetter, the Center for Beef Excellence, the Center for Dairy Excellence, and the Center for Poultry and Livestock Excellence, and Delaware Valley University will discuss grant opportunities, emerging markets, on-farm biosecurity, research, and other programs making Centers for Excellence unique resources for PA farmers.

Jan. 12, 8 p.m. -- Cultivating the Future -- How Ag Education & Youth Organizations are Creating the Leaders of Tomorrow -- Kids are the future. Learn how today's youth are discovering opportunities in agriculture through agriculture education and youth organizations. Members of 4-H, FFA, MANRRS and the Agriculture Education Commission will join Redding to discuss how youth can become involved in agriculture.

- Jan. 13, 10 a.m. -- Cultivating Insight: A Townhall Meeting to Address Agricultural Challenges, Achievements and Future Opportunity -- Strengthening the agriculture and food industries is a common goal. Join Secretary Russell Redding and Penn State College of Agricultural Science's Dean Richard Roush as they discuss challenges, achievements and future opportunities for the agriculture industry.

- Jan. 13, 8 p.m. -- Cultivating Impact: A Year's Review of Pennsylvania's First Farm Bill -- As the agriculture industry grows and changes, it must be supported in new ways to ensure its future success. The PA Farm Bill invests in Pennsylvania agriculture to grow opportunities and resources, remove barriers to entry, and inspire future generations of agriculture leaders in. Farm Bill grant recipients, Senate Agriculture Committee leadership and Redding will highlight successes and unveil how the Farm Bill continues to cultivate impact.

- Jan. 14, 10 a.m. -- Cultivating Diversity: How Diversity, Equity and Inclusion are Strengthening Agriculture -- We must feed equality to feed the future. The Department of Agriculture is committed to combatting injustices that have prevented equal access to opportunity throughout the agriculture industry. Redding joins leaders from Feed the Barrel, Agribility, MANRRS, the National Young Farmers Grant program and others to discuss Cultivating Diversity.

- Jan. 14, 8 p.m. -- Cultivating Sustainability: Discover Farm Conservation Practices that Reduce Our Environmental Footprint -- Keeping Pennsylvania growing means being good stewards of our natural resources. Secretary Redding joins environmental leaders from the State Conservation Commission, No-Till Alliance, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, Penn State College of Agriculture and others to highlight investments in conservation and sustainability to protect our natural resources for tomorrow. Topics will include water quality, farmland preservation, climate-smart agriculture and reducing food waste.

- Jan. 15, 10 a.m. -- Cultivating Commerce: How the Agriculture and Food Industries Strengthen the Economy -- Redding will join Team Pennsylvania Foundation and other economic development leaders to discuss consumer trends, market access, e-commerce and new areas of growth that will benefit Pennsylvania's agriculture and food industries.

- Jan. 15, 8 p.m. -- Cultivating Tomorrow: The New Faces of Agriculture -- Agriculture is evolving -- so are the faces of agriculture. Join Redding and young agriculture professionals as they discuss how they became involved in the industry and their career pathways in animal science, food processing, agriculture research and production agriculture.
