Southwest Project Grass (SWPG) is a collaborative initiative involving county conservation districts, local farmers, and industry partners, with support from the USDA.
Additional assistance comes from Penn State Extension, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, the PA State Conservation Commission, and other organizations.
SWPG’s mission is to enhance pasture management and rotational grazing practices through educational events such as field days, pasture walks, and conferences.
In 2025, SWPG celebrates its 45th anniversary with a special conference in partnership with the Red Devon Association. The event will take place October 2-5 at the Fayette County Fairgrounds.
Attendees can expect keynote presentations from experts including Steve Campbell, Troy Bishopp, and Dr. Lowell Midla, alongside a Red Devon cattle show.
The conference begins Friday with a farm tour, followed by breakout sessions at the fairgrounds, continuing into Saturday with live demonstrations.
Sessions will cover a range of topics critical to livestock producers, including profitability, mineral nutrition, cattle handling, and direct marketing.
Pasture and forage management will also be a focus, featuring discussions on soil health, fertility, forage testing, and strategies to extend the grazing season.
For the complete agenda, registration details, or sponsorship opportunities, visit the SWPG website. For additional questions, contact Leanna Duppstadt at lms5900@psu.edu or call 814-483-7156.
This conference offers a valuable opportunity for farmers and industry professionals to gain practical knowledge, network, and celebrate the ongoing success of sustainable grazing practices.
