The USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Rhode Island is poised to transform local agriculture with its largest-ever climate and conservation funding.
This initiative is part of the Inflation Reduction Act's commitment to Climate-Smart Agriculture and Forestry Mitigation Activities Program such as the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) and the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) will disburse these funds.
Eligible participants including farmers, forest managers, ranchers, and urban growers can benefit from a slew of conservation practices.
These practices aim to enhance forest and soil health, improve water and air quality, support wildlife habitats, and mitigate wildfire risks while also reducing greenhouse emissions and boosting carbon sequestration. Financial incentives are also on offer to encourage adoption.
Specific practices funded under this initiative include cover crops, tree planting, development of composting facilities, and installation of efficient irrigation systems.
Applications for the second round of fiscal year 2025 funding are open until January 10, 2025. Interested parties are encouraged to contact their local NRCS Field Office or Conservation District Office for more details.
