Pennsylvania farm progress - crop update

Pennsylvania experienced favorable fieldwork conditions during the week ending September 8th, with 6.5 days suitable for agricultural activities.

Topsoil and subsoil moisture levels remained adequate, with 87% and 87% respectively rated as such.

Key crop developments included:

  • Corn: 84% of corn reached the dough stage, and 57% reached the dent stage. Harvesting for silage was 23% complete. The average corn height was 94 inches.
  • Hay: 80% of third-cutting alfalfa hay and 38% of fourth-cutting alfalfa hay were completed. Other hay cuttings reached 95% and 62% completion for second and third cuttings, respectively.
  • Oats: 94% of oats were harvested for grain.
  • Soybeans: 94% of soybeans were setting pods, and 12% were dropping leaves.
  • Fruits: Apple and peach harvests reached 40% and 85% completion, respectively.

Pennsylvania farmers made significant progress in their fieldwork, taking advantage of favorable conditions to advance crop development and harvesting.
