PA game commission announces 2024-25 license changes

PA game commission announces 2024-25 license changes

By Blake Jackson

The Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) has announced changes to the hunting and trapping license sales process for the 2024-25 season. Licenses for the prior season expire in June, and new licenses will be available for purchase starting June 24th.

A streamlined antlerless deer license purchasing system is being implemented to address high demand in specific Wildlife Management Units (WMUs). Initially, licenses will be available only in the most popular WMUs, followed by a period for guaranteed purchase in remaining WMUs for resident hunters.

Any remaining licenses will then be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Additional antlerless licenses can be purchased in a later sales round.

Science-based quotas are established for antlerless deer licenses within each WMU to ensure responsible deer herd management.

Online license buyers can now receive a printed hunting regulations digest with their license purchase. Previously, all online license purchases automatically included a digest, which may not have been necessary for all hunters.

The digest remains available for online viewing and download. There will be a slight increase in shipping costs for online license purchases due to postage rate changes.

Senior lifetime license holders who acquired their licenses before May 13, 2017, maintain their exemption from purchasing a separate pheasant permit. Proof of residency is required when renewing senior lifetime licenses.
