PA farmers harvest crops amidst mild weather

Pennsylvania farmers had 6.5 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending Sunday, November 19, 2023. Topsoil moisture conditions were mostly adequate, with 83% of the state rated adequate or surplus. Subsoil moisture conditions were also mostly adequate, with 83% of the state rated adequate or surplus.

The mild temperatures and above-normal precipitation allowed for some progress on fall harvest activities. Corn harvest is 70% complete, ahead of the five-year average of 80%. Soybean harvest is 86% complete, ahead of the five-year average of 83%. Apple harvest is 91% complete, ahead of the five-year average of 90%. Winter wheat planting is 95% complete.
