According to CBS 21’s meteorology team, some regions of Central Pennsylvania are about five inches short of rain, putting the area into a moderate drought.
Although these dry conditions are impacting farmers, they could impede on some summer plans.
Cherry Crest Adventure Farm is officially open for their summer season, but there are some differences visitors might notice from previous years.
They plant their corn a week before Memorial Day, which gives it time to grow to at least five feet before they open for the summer.
“Back then, we had two or three weeks with almost no rain and so the corn was slow going,” explained Jason Jarvis, the Maze Supervisor at Cherry Crest Adventure Farm.
Due to the lack of rain, the corn only grew about one to two feet.
Even the owner acknowledged the slow growth, saying this is the shortest he’s seen the corn in the past 28 years.
