Dairy Legend Wins Top Klussendorf Honor

By Jamie Martin

During the 58th World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wisconsin, Clark Woodmansee III of Preston, Connecticut, was presented with the 83rd Klussendorf Award, the most prestigious recognition for a dairy showman in the U.S. This award honors individuals who demonstrate the highest standards of sportsmanship, dedication, and excellence in dairy cattle breeding.

Named after the legendary showman Arthur B. Klussendorf, the award was created to celebrate individuals who reflect his passion and integrity. Each year’s recipient is chosen by the Klussendorf Memorial Association, founded in 1937.

Woodmansee has been a leading figure in the dairy community for more than five decades. Operating under the Woodmansee prefix, his herd has produced nine Excellent 94-point cows and contributed to more than a dozen 95-point or higher animals. His consistent pursuit of quality has placed his herd among the most respected in New England.

His success in the show ring includes multiple All-American nominations and major wins with Holstein stars like Hazels Goldwyn Hatty, a two-time Grand Champion at the Northeast Fall National Holstein Show and the 2019 World Dairy Expo Best Bred and Owned winner.

In addition to his breeding success, Woodmansee is celebrated for his mentorship and humility, supporting young farmers and promoting good sportsmanship. His recognition with the Klussendorf Award is a tribute to a lifetime of passion, excellence, and leadership in the dairy industry.
