Celebrate fall with Pennsylvanian preferred pumpkin contest

By Blake Jackson

Calling all Pennsylvanians! Join the fun and celebrate fall with the PA Preferred pumpkin contest, PA Pumpkin Palooza: Where Gourds Go Glam. Purchase a pumpkin from a local farm and unleash your creativity by painting or carving it!

“Pennsylvania has a pumpkin patch around every corner and a farmer producing the best quality products on the market,” said Secretary Redding. “Take time this fall for some fun on the farm and pick a PA pumpkin to express your creative support for Pennsylvania farms. Not only will your PA pumpkin pride shine all season, but your purchasing power helps farmers feed families, support jobs and grow our economy.”

In 2023, Pennsylvania farms produced a significant amount of pumpkins, contributing to the state's thriving $76 billion tourism industry. Find a pumpkin patch or farmers market near you at agriculture.pa.gov.

Show off your artistic skills! A panel of expert judges will choose winners in two categories: painted and carved pumpkins. Entries are divided into three age groups: Child (11 and under), Youth (12-17), and Adult (18+).

To enter, email a photo of your pumpkin masterpiece along with your name, age, hometown (including county), email address, phone number, and the name of the PA farm where you bought the pumpkin to agcontests@pa.gov.

Submissions are open from September 23rd to October 20th, 2024 (11:59 PM). Winners will be announced on October 31st. So, grab a pumpkin, get creative, and participate in the PA Pumpkin Palooza!
