Pennsylvania experienced favorable fieldwork conditions during the week ending September 22, 2024. The state recorded 6.5 days suitable for agricultural activities, despite above-normal temperatures and slightly below-normal rainfall.
Topsoil and subsoil moisture levels remained relatively adequate, with 71% and 68% rated adequate, respectively.
Crop Progress:
- Apples: Harvest reached 60%, near the 5-year average of 60%.
- Barley: Planting reached 5%, behind the 5-year average of N/A.
- Corn: 95% of corn reached the dough stage, 75% reached the dented stage, and 28% reached maturity. Corn for silage harvest reached 49%.
- Fall Tillage: 25% of fall tillage was completed.
- Hay, Alfalfa: Fourth cutting reached 62%, near the 5-year average of N/A.
- Hay, Other: Third cutting reached 80%, near the 5-year average of N/A.
- Soybeans: Leaf dropping reached 44%, near the 5-year average of N/A.
