REAP - tax credits for PA farmers

REAP - tax credits for PA farmers

By Blake Jackson

The Resource Enhancement and Protection (REAP) program, managed by Pennsylvania's State Conservation Commission (SCC), offers substantial tax credits to farmers for implementing Best Management Practices (BMPs).

These practices cover costs such as planning, engineering, materials, and labor, with credits ranging from 50% to 90% depending on the practice adopted. Tax credits are issued after the installation of practices or purchase of eligible equipment, excluding state or federal cost-share portions.

To qualify, applicants must possess current Agricultural Erosion and Sedimentation (E&S) Plans or Conservation Plans, along with Manure/Nutrient Management Plans for all farmed acres.

Credits are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, emphasizing the program's commitment to supporting farms of various sizes and types. Recent updates aim to broaden accessibility and ensure equitable opportunities across the agricultural community.

For detailed eligibility criteria and application procedures, prospective applicants are encouraged to contact Joel Semke, REAP Program Administrator, at 717-705-4032 or jsemke@pa.gov.
