Pennsylvania egg production rose by 2% in August 2024 compared to the previous year. The state produced a total of 708.6 million eggs, including 660.0 million table eggs and 48.6 million hatching eggs.
The increase in egg production was driven by a 1% growth in the number of laying hens. The total number of layers in Pennsylvania during August 2024 averaged 27.2 million, up from 26.961 million in August 2023.
Egg production per 100 layers also increased by 1% to 2,610 eggs in August 2024. This suggests that the state's laying hens have become more efficient in converting feed into eggs.
The increase in egg production in Pennsylvania is a positive sign for the state's poultry industry. It indicates that the industry is growing and meeting consumer demand. However, it is important to note that the egg industry is subject to fluctuations in production and demand.
