Pennsylvania’s egg production saw a decline in January 2025, totaling 681.8 million eggs, a 4% decrease compared to January 2024. The production consisted of 634.6 million table eggs and 47.2 million hatching eggs.
The total number of layers in Pennsylvania averaged 26.2 million during January 2025, marking a 6% decrease from the previous year. However, egg production per 100 layers increased by 2%, reaching 2,606 eggs compared to 2,562 eggs in January 2024.
Table egg layers in flocks of 30,000 or more declined from 24.6 million in January 2024 to 22.9 million in January 2025. Similarly, the total number of layers across all flocks dropped from 27.7 million to 26.2 million over the same period.
Despite the overall decline in production, Pennsylvania’s hatching egg output increased slightly, rising from 45.7 million eggs in January 2024 to 47.2 million in January 2025.
The drop in egg production is largely attributed to a reduction in the number of layers, though the slight increase in productivity per layer has helped offset some of the losses.
