Pennsylvania crop progress - corn and soybeans update

Pennsylvania experienced favorable weather conditions for fieldwork during the week ending September 15, 2024.

Despite below-normal temperatures and rainfall, 7.0 days were suitable for field activities. Soil moisture levels remained adequate, with topsoil and subsoil supplies rated 85% and 84% adequate, respectively.

Crop Progress Highlights:

  • Corn: 90% of corn is in the dough stage, 65% is dented, and 13% is mature. Corn for silage harvest is 41% complete.
  • Soybeans: 96% of soybeans are setting pods, and 29% are dropping leaves.
  • Hay: 95% of third-cut alfalfa hay and 53% of fourth-cut alfalfa hay have been harvested. 72% of third-cut other hay has been harvested.
  • Other Crops: 97% of oats have been harvested for grain, 95% of peaches have been harvested, and 52% of potatoes have been harvested.

Overall, Pennsylvania's crops are in good condition, and fieldwork activities have progressed steadily.
