Majority of Pennsylvania Soil Moisture Rated Adequate



According to the National Agricultural Statistics Service in Pennsylvania, there were 5.5 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending Sunday.

Topsoil moisture supplies were 3 percent very short, 33 percent short, 64 percent adequate, and 0 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were 0 percent very short, 27 percent short, 73 percent adequate, and 0 percent surplus.

Pennsylvania barley maturing was at 26 percent, while oats headed was reported at 53 percent, up from 13 percent last week.

With 96 percent of the corn planted, 84 percent has emerged and the average height of corn is 30 inches.

Soybeans planted reached 88 percent with 76 percent of the crop emerged.

Pennsylvania winter wheat headed was virtually complete at 98 percent and coloring was at 70 percent, up from 17 percent last week.

First cutting of alfalfa hay was 64 percent, while second cutting was 24 percent. First cutting of other hay was 60 percent complete.
