Penn State Extension, in partnership with the Pennsylvania Sheep and Wool Growers Association, is hosting a hands-on sheep spring shearing workshop at Wherry Farm in Scenery Hill, PA, on April 25-26.
This workshop is designed for beginning shearers, but experienced individuals seeking additional practice and resources are also welcome. The program will cover professional shearing techniques, equipment setup, maintenance, wool handling, and basic sheep care.
Austin Brown, Penn State Extension's small ruminant specialist, and Carl Geissinger from Geissinger Sheep Shearing Services will lead the training. Geissinger, with 50 years of shearing experience and over 100,000 sheep sheared, brings extensive expertise to the workshop.
Due to limited space, pre-registration is required by April 21. The registration fee is $100, with a discounted rate of $80 for additional participants from the same family or farm.
The workshop includes refreshments, lunch, and all necessary shearing equipment. Participants will also receive a shearing resource packet, containing a laminated instructional poster and a sheep shearing guide.
To register or for further details, visit the Penn State Extension website. For inquiries, contact Austin Brown at aqb5615@psu.edu or 814-865-1718.
