Clarion county 4-H makes its mark at the farm show

By Blake Jackson

Clarion County 4-H members made their mark at the recent Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg, showcasing their talents and dedication beyond the farm gate. Five young stars stole the spotlight with their skills and perseverance in livestock exhibitions and baking competitions.

Jaxson Blose, Marshall Nolf, and Mareah Heller brought their champion animals to the Junior Market Shows, claiming impressive placings with their well-prepared hogs and goats. Blose's fourth-place market hog received an enthusiastic bid from Countryside Animal Health, while Nolf's second-place prize winner found a happy home at Double M Farms. Heller's impressive goat secured third place in her market class before being snapped up by Seneca Resources.

Sweet victories weren't confined to the livestock barn. Mackenna Rankin added a dash of culinary magic to the mix, entering her creations in both the Homemade Chocolate Cake Contest and the Pennsylvania Preferred Junior Baking Cookies, Brownies & Bar Contest. Her delicious entries tantalized the judges, proving that Clarion County's 4-H spirit extends beyond the field.

Avah Burke, representing the Clarion County 4-H Teen Council, took her commitment a step further. Shadowing Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding throughout the event, she gained invaluable insights into the world of agriculture policy and leadership.

These achievements shine a spotlight on the power of 4-H, a program administered through Penn State Extension that empowers young people across America to develop life skills, leadership, and a sense of citizenship. Clarion County's vibrant program demonstrates the program's reach and impact, nurturing the next generation of agricultural champions and community leaders.
