Pennsylvania 4-H announced "Unlocking the Power Within" as its theme for the year during their recent 4-H Week celebration. This theme aims to inspire young participants to build confidence, motivation, and ambition to achieve their goals. The State Council is challenging 4-H members to explore their potential through the program's diverse project areas, ranging from animal science to STEM.
Jeanette Stackhouse, a Penn State Extension specialist, encourages 4-H members to share their stories about how the program has empowered them. These stories will showcase the positive impact of 4-H and motivate others to unlock their own potential.
The State Council, a prestigious youth leadership group, serves as the official voice of Pennsylvania 4-H. Council members are chosen for their leadership qualities and dedicate a year to serving the program. Their responsibilities include planning major events like the State Leadership Conference, representing 4-H at various functions, and promoting the program to new families.
Council members are not only role models but also actively develop their own leadership and communication skills through professional development activities. Their experiences on the Council provide valuable insights into government functions and equip them with skills in public speaking, time management, and teamwork.
Administered by Penn State Extension, Pennsylvania 4-H is a youth development program focused on helping young people become well-rounded citizens through practical knowledge, skill development, and a commitment to their communities.
