The Center for Ag Conservation Assistance Training (CACAT) is introducing an updated Ag Conservation Keystone Training Series, aimed at equipping conservation professionals with the skills needed to succeed in a rapidly evolving agricultural landscape.
According to Dana E. Flowers, Extension Educator with CACAT, the redesigned program is structured to support individuals at every stage of their careers, from newcomers to experienced staff seeking to expand their expertise.
The enhanced series includes three specialized trainings focused on building practical knowledge, confidence, and stronger collaboration within Pennsylvania’s conservation community.
The first program, Essential Skills for New Ag Conservation Employees, scheduled for February 2027, is designed as an introductory, hands-on experience.
It will cover key topics such as communication, agricultural terminology, biosecurity, workplace safety, and basic planning tools.
The second training, Keystones of Ag Best Management Practices, will take place June 3-4, 2026, in State College. This two-day, in-person session emphasizes identifying on-farm resource concerns and aligning them with appropriate best management practices (BMPs).
Participants will engage in both classroom instruction and real-world application to strengthen their field skills.
The third offering, Fundamentals of ACAP Coordination, planned for October 2026, focuses on guiding staff through the complexities of project management.
Topics include program eligibility, application processes, construction oversight, certification, and coordination responsibilities.
The upcoming Keystones of Ag Best Management Practices training will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn in State College.
Day one will feature classroom sessions on resource evaluation, aerial imagery analysis, digital tools, and BMP fundamentals. On day two, attendees will visit a working farm for hands-on learning and site assessments.
This updated training series is designed to provide practical tools and real-world experience, helping conservation professionals better serve agricultural communities.
