Seeking Nominees for Kiwifruit Committee Roles

Seeking Nominees for Kiwifruit Committee Roles

By Jamie Martin

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is currently inviting individuals to step forward as nominees for the Kiwifruit Administrative Committee, an influential body tasked with steering the kiwifruit industry's standards on quality, marketing, and research initiatives.

This committee plays an important role in recommending regulations concerning quality and marketing, including packaging and container standards.

Starting August 1, 2025, six new members and their alternates will join the committee, serving two-year terms. Those interested in contributing to the kiwifruit sector's future can submit their nominations from April 7 to 30, 2025.

Nominees are specifically sought for three grower member seats in two distinct regions within California - Butte, Sutter, and Yuba counties (District 1) and Tulare County (District 2).

Jeremy Toews, the Assistant Manager at the Kiwifruit Administrative Committee, along with USDA Marketing Specialist Bianca Bertrand, are key contacts for those interested in nominating themselves or others.

The committee, administered locally under the Agricultural Marketing Service's oversight, comprises twelve members, with a composition of eleven growers and one public member. Each member is supported by an alternate, ensuring a comprehensive representation across the industry.

"Authorized by the Agricultural Marketing Agreement Act of 1937, marketing orders are industry-driven programs that help producers and handlers achieve marketing success," the committee outlines, emphasizing the collaborative effort funded by industry stakeholders themselves.

For more details on the nomination process or to understand the broader impact of the Kiwifruit Administrative Committee, interested parties can visit the AMS 920 Kiwifruit webpage or contact the officials mentioned above.
