AMS Galaxy and DeLaval are two of the leading robotic milking system companies. Both companies offer systems that can milk 60 to 65 cows per day, but there are some key differences between the two brands.
AMS Galaxy requires farmers to attend a mandatory one-week training course, while DeLaval provides online training and phone support. DeLaval primarily offers technical support through dealers, while AMS Galaxy also has its own technical support team.
AMS Galaxy uses a camera and lasers to identify and locate the cow's teats, while DeLaval uses a time-of-flight camera. Both companies track data on milk production, but AMS Galaxy also tracks if the animal is in heat and ruminating. DeLaval tracks milk flow, mastitis detection index, and incompletes.
AMS Galaxy's Merlin2G is made entirely of stainless steel, making it easy to clean. It also operates entirely on electricity. DeLaval's V300 offers progesterone detection.
The price of both systems varies depending on the size and features. The lifespan of both systems is dependent on the preventive maintenance farmers do.
There is no one-size-fits-all answer when choosing between an AMS Galaxy and DeLaval robotic milking system. The best system for your farm will depend on your individual needs and preferences.
