Ag Progress Days, held at the Russell E. Larson Agricultural Research Center, is set to offer an array of informative and interactive activities focused on farm safety. The Farm Safety Demonstration Area will feature demonstrations highlighting the hazards associated with all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and emphasize the importance of protective safety gear for ATV riders. Agricultural safety specialists will also simulate a power take off entanglement emergency, showcasing first responders' approaches to managing farm-related incidents. In addition, the event will provide insights into the safe use of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) in agriculture, with live drone demonstrations conducted by Penn State faculty members from the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering.
Attendees can visit the Rural Health and Safety Tent, where various health screenings, activities, and information sessions will be available for all ages. From carotid artery screenings to vision screenings and blood pressure checks, health specialists will be on hand to provide valuable health and safety resources. Interactive activities and wellness information will be offered by organizations such as AgrAbility for Pennsylvanians, Prevention Health, the American Trauma Society, and more.
The Pennsylvania Office of Rural Health will offer pesticide applicators the opportunity to earn core pesticide credits through educational presentations on pesticide safety. Visitors can participate in sessions covering topics such as pesticide storage, security, transportation, and spill management.
Ag Progress Days, sponsored by Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences, will take place from August 8 to 10, featuring free admission and parking.
