Pennsylvania is actively tracking the spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in both dairy cattle and poultry across the United States.
To keep producers and stakeholders informed, the Center for Dairy Excellence will host a Pennsylvania Agriculture HPAI Conference Call on Wednesday, April 9, at 1 p.m. EST.
The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture is currently addressing HPAI detections in commercial poultry flocks within the state.
During the call, experts will discuss the required surveillance for dairy farms located in control buffer zones around infected poultry or dairy premises.
It's important to note that this is a different HPAI strain than the one affecting dairy cattle in California and other states and is linked to wild geese transmission in the Eastern Fly-Way Zones. The quarantine order remains in effect as a precautionary measure to protect local dairy and poultry operations.
Panelists will also provide updates on Pennsylvania's overall response, the current HPAI situation, and effective biosecurity planning. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions in real-time.
To maximize the number of questions addressed, submissions are encouraged before the call by texting 717-585-0766 or ctrdairyexcellence@gmail.com.
The conference call will be accessible by dialing +1 301-715-8592, using Meeting ID 862 1728 9408 and Passcode 556431.
Alternatively, participants can join via Zoom at www.centerfordairyexcellence.org/industry-call. Future calls are scheduled for the first or second Wednesday of each month.
This session aims to provide crucial information and support to Pennsylvania's agricultural community during this evolving situation.
