Pennsylvania Farm Show town hall on wildlife crop damage

Pennsylvania Farm Show town hall on wildlife crop damage

By Blake Jackson

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Game Commission, Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, and Hunters Sharing the Harvest, will host a town hall meeting during the 2025 Pennsylvania Farm Show to address a growing issue in the agriculture community: crop damage caused by wildlife.

The event will focus on the need for a balanced approach to managing deer populations to protect local crops and promote healthy ecosystems.

The town hall will feature key speakers including Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding, Game Commission Executive Director Stephen Smith, Pennsylvania Farm Bureau President Chris Hoffman, and Hunters Sharing the Harvest Executive Director Randy Ferguson.

These leaders will discuss the challenges faced by farmers due to wildlife-related damage and explore potential solutions to mitigate this issue.

The session will also provide an opportunity for attendees to ask questions and engage in meaningful dialogue about the intersection of agriculture and wildlife management.

The meeting will take place on Thursday, January 9, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the Susquehanna Room at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg. The room is located near the Maclay Street entrance in the Main Hall. Following the meeting, the panelists will be available for media interviews.
