The PA Beef to PA Schools initiative aims to connect schools with local cattle producers to enhance school lunch programs with fresh, locally sourced beef. By incorporating more beef into their meals, schools not only provide nutritious options for students but also support local farms and strengthen the connection between the community and the Pennsylvania beef industry.
"We are passionate about fueling young students with beef and connecting the dots between Pennsylvania farm families and beef meals on the lunch tray," said Nichole Hockenberry, PA Beef Council, Executive Director, "our desire is to provide quality nutrition and grow the next generation of beef consumers."
The program also introduces creative and kid-friendly beef recipes, such as Rock and Roll Beef Wraps made with ranch-seasoned ground beef and slaw, Spy Thai Beef with peanut butter and soy sauce for a hint of ethnic flavor, and a no-fuss Rancher Recipe Lasagna layered with beef, pasta sauce, and cheese.
In its first year, the program has delivered over 6,500 pounds of beef to four school districts across Pennsylvania, promoting food security and supporting local producers. For more details, contact Nichole Hockenberry at the PA Beef Council.
