The Pennsylvania Friends of Agriculture Foundation is set to host the 31st annual Richard Prether Golf Classic on Monday, June 12, at the Hershey Country Club West Course. The tournament raises funds for programs to help the public better understand the story behind our food, fuel and fiber. Registration begins at 11:00 a.m. with a putting contest at 11:30 a.m. and a shotgun start to the tournament at 12:30 p.m.
This year’s event will feature professional golfer and Pennsylvania Farm Bureau member, Rachel Rohanna, who is a member of the LPGA’s Epsom Tour. Rohanna, a Waynesburg native and farmer, will participate in a “Beat the Pro” fundraiser on the fifth hole. The event will also feature a silent auction, a putting contest, a 50/50 raffle and a hole-in-one contest where participants can compete for a chance to win a Ford F-150.
The event will conclude with a banquet. Foundation Board Chairman and Farm Bureau President Chris Hoffman is scheduled to speak at the event.
The Friends of Agriculture Foundation, a charitable organization supported by Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, works to increase the public’s understanding of agriculture and the critical role it plays in our daily lives. This is done through programs such as the six Mobile Agriculture Education Sciences Labs, the new GIANT Farms to Families Immersion Lab and Ag on the Go, which brings hands-on agriculture science lessons directly to schools; Ag Literacy Week, which sends farmers into classrooms across the state to teach students about agriculture; and Educator’s Ag Institute, a weeklong summer program that helps teachers incorporate lessons about agriculture into the classroom.
