According to the latest data from the National Agricultural Statistics Service in Pennsylvania, fieldwork conditions for the week ending April 7, 2024, were moderately favorable, with 2.0 days suitable for agricultural activities.
Topsoil moisture levels indicated no significant shortages, with 75 percent deemed adequate and 24 percent in surplus. Similarly, subsoil moisture was generally satisfactory, with 82 percent rated as adequate and 14 percent in surplus, although there was a slight shortage of 4 percent.
In terms of crop conditions, both barley and winter wheat were reported to be in good to excellent condition as of April 7, 2024. None were categorized as very poor or poor, highlighting overall healthy growth. Specifically, 87 percent of barley and 78 percent of winter wheat were rated as good, with 13 percent of barley and 22 percent of winter wheat achieving an excellent rating.
These statistics suggest a promising start to the growing season in Pennsylvania, with adequate soil moisture and favorable crop conditions boding well for agricultural productivity. However, continued monitoring and management will be essential to maintain these positive trends throughout the season.
