On August 23, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. ET, the Penn State Center for Agricultural and Shale Law, in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Business Development Center (ABDC), will host a pivotal webinar titled “Understanding the Basics of the H-2A Temporary Agricultural Worker Program.”
This session is part of their ongoing Understanding Agricultural Law educational series and aims to shed light on the intricacies of the H-2A program.
The H-2A temporary agricultural worker program, established under the Immigration and Nationality Act, permits U.S. agricultural employers who cannot find sufficient domestic labor to bring in foreign workers for temporary or seasonal agricultural labor.
According to data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Economic Research Service, the number of H-2A positions requested and approved has surged significantly, from just over 48,000 in fiscal year 2005 to approximately 371,000 in fiscal year 2022. The U.S. Department of State issued more than 310,000 H-2A visas in 2023 alone.
This informative webinar will cover the key provisions of the H-2A program, including the adverse effect wage rate (AEWR), and will delve into the processes, requirements, and legal considerations associated with hiring and managing H-2A workers.
Pennsylvania-licensed attorneys can earn one hour of substantive Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit at no charge.
This event is an excellent opportunity for legal and agricultural professionals to enhance their understanding of the H-2A program and its impact on the agricultural industry.
