Pasa Sustainable Agriculture has teamed up with Western Pennsylvania Conservancy and recently hired an agroforestry-focused team member to offer technical assistance to farmers in western Pennsylvania who are interested in planting productive trees and shrubs on their farms.
Pasa is seeking western Pennsylvania crop and livestock farms to volunteer to work with us this fall and winter to develop site designs that incorporate alley cropping and silvopasture into their systems. Participating farms may potentially be eligible to receive financial assistance to implement their site plans next spring.
Apply by Sept. 1. This project is supported by a grant from the R.K. Mellon Foundation.

Agroforestry Project Manager: Tracey Coulter says of her background she brings to the project: "I was a tree nerd from an early age. In fact, there is a family legend that I started a pre-school nature club. My passion for growing things continued in a life-long study of the connections among plants, trees, and people. I recently retired from the Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry, where I initiated one of the first state agroforestry programs in the country. After 17 years attending the Pasa conference, I'm delighted to officially join the team!"
