From toddlers to vets - Mullets rule at PA farm show

By Blake Jackson

The Pennsylvania Farm Show, known for its agricultural giants, witnessed a new contender steal the spotlight this year – the mighty mullet! Over 90 proud owners of this iconic hairstyle strutted their stuff in the first-ever Farm Show Mullet Contest, proving that the 'business in front, party in back' spirit is alive and kicking.

From toddlers like two-year-old Neil Finkenbinder, rocking his natural mullet since birth, to veterans like Pete Brubaker, nurturing his mane for 39 years, the competition showcased a diverse range of dedication. Brubaker's unwavering commitment earned him the "best in grow" title, proving that time (and hairspray) truly does tell.

Heavy Metal Hair Salon, sponsor of the event, brought their expertise to bear, with owner Brittany Goldberg confessing, "Mullets keep my salon alive!" She found judging "impossible" due to the sheer talent and passion on display.

Each mullet sported a unique story. Klint Miller's was a spontaneous act of camaraderie, while Calvin Waldman's honored the memory of a lost friend. Annie Dingzon, an honorable mention in the adult category, boldly dyed her mullet blue the night before, adding a splash of individuality.

The contest, held on the main stage, originally expected a humble 30 participants, but the overwhelming turnout of over 90 blew organizers Madi Shaw and Ben Jumper away. Hundreds of spectators cheered on the mullet maestros, witnessing a spectacle of hair-shaking, dancing, themed outfits, and even a guest appearance by a baby goat!

"Everybody here was having fun," Jumper exclaimed. The party vibe is set to continue, as Shaw and Jumper are already brainstorming ways to make next year's contest even bigger and better, with more age groups and prizes to celebrate the mullet's enduring legacy.

So, whether you're a seasoned mullet veteran or a curious newcomer, remember: the Farm Show now boasts a new tradition, one that celebrates the joy of individuality and the power of a good head of hair. Let the mullets flow, and the party continue!
