Results from this year’s Penn State Board of Trustees elections were announced at the group’s meeting today (May 5).
University alumni elected Ali Krieger and re-elected incumbents Jay Paterno and Anthony Lubrano as alumni trustees.
Delegates of agricultural societies re-elected incumbents Randall E. Black and Lynn A. Dietrich.
Robert F. Beard and Karen L. Quintos were elected as trustees representing business and industry, and Matthew W. Schuyler was re-elected as an at-large trustee.
Eberly College of Science student Kevin B. Schuyler was elected to the position of student trustee, a position he will hold for two years.
Additionally, Kelley M. Lynch will also assume a two-year seat on the board as the immediate past president of the Penn State Alumni Association, replacing Randolph “Randy” B. Houston Jr. in that capacity.
Agricultural societies
Randall E. Black. Black was re-elected to the Board of Trustees by delegates from agricultural societies. He has more than three decades of business and accounting experience and has been with First Citizens Community Bank since 1993. Black is a lifetime 4-H member and a program leader, and he is a director of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia and the Pennsylvania Bankers Association, a member of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, Pennsylvania Bankers Association, American Bankers Association and the Tioga/Potter Farm Bureau.
Lynn A. Dietrich. Dietrich, a 1973 Penn State graduate, was re-elected to the Board of Trustees by delegates from agricultural societies. A Penn State alumnus, he is retired as director of engineering for Manitowoc Cranes Inc. and is the former vice president of product development for Grove Manufacturing in Shady Grove, Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Franklin County Farm Bureau, American Farm Bureau, Pennsylvania State Grange, and Cumberland Valley Grange. Dietrich has received the College of Agricultural Sciences Outstanding Alumni Award and the Distinguished Alumni Award, the University’s highest individual honor.
Business and industry
Robert F. Beard. Beard is chief operations officer of UGI Corporation. He’s worked with UGI since 2008, where he began as the vice president of the southern region for UGI Utilities Inc. and moved to a variety of other roles within the company, including executive vice president of natural gas, global engineering and construction, and chief executive officer of UGI Utilities Inc. He also has served as chief executive officer of Mountaineer Gas Company. Prior to joining the company, Beard worked with PPL Gas Utilities Corp. as vice president of operations and engineering and, before that, director of operations and engineering.
Karen L. Quintos. A Penn State alumna, Quintos is currently chair of the Smeal Board of Visitors at the University. She also serves on the board of directors of Cummins and Lennox International, National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and Translational Genomics Research. She’s retired as Dell’s chief customer officer, and previously served within the company as senior vice president and chief marketing officer, as well as vice president of public sector marketing and North America Commercial. Prior to her work with Dell, Quintos worked with Citigroup as vice president of global operations and technology, and she spent 12 years with Merck in marketing, operations and supply chain leadership positions. Quintos is the 2014 recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Smeal College of Business.
At-large trustee
Matthew W. Schuyler. Schuyler was re-elected to the Board of Trustees as an at-large trustee. He was elected to serve as vice chair of the board in 2017 and as chair in 2020. A 1987 Penn State graduate, Schuyler currently serves as the chief brand officer at Hilton. His Penn State volunteer service has included membership on the board of visitors of the Smeal College of Business, the College of Information Sciences and Technology, and on the School of Hospitality Management advisory board. The Penn State Alumni Association honored him with an Alumni Fellow Award in 2013.
Student trustee
Kevin B. Schuyler. Schuyler is enrolled in a dual bachelor’s and master’s degree program in the Eberly College of Science with a focus in biochemistry and statistics. He is on the executive board of the Blue & White Society and held positions in the society as director of alumni relations, director of internal affairs, and the programming board. He is an active member of Phi Chi Theta business fraternity, a Lion Ambassador, and a THON volunteer. He has experience at Johnson & Johnson’s Inter-Regional Transportation Excellence and interned at Jillamy Inc. and Merck’s Global Biologics Value Chain Management team.
Alumni trustees
Ali Krieger. Krieger is a professional soccer player and two-time world champion. A 2007 Penn State alumna, Krieger has a long history with the University’s women’s soccer team and continues to visit campus to support athletics programming. As a student-athlete, Krieger was three-time Big Ten Academic Honors recipient and a captain and co-captain of the Penn State women’s soccer team. She was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and was the only Nittany Lion named an All-American at two different positions. Krieger is a member of the U.S. women’s national team and has won two World Cup championships. She has represented the United States on the women’s soccer team at the Olympics and serves as an Athlete Ally Ambassador promoting LGBTQI+ equality. Krieger currently plays for New York City’s Gotham FC.
Anthony Lubrano. Lubrano, who graduated from Penn State in 1982, began his career in New York City with Deloitte Haskins & Sells, followed by Goldman Sachs and First Boston Corporation. He later founded A.P Lubrano & Co. Inc., a financial services and wealth management firm based in Paoli, Pennsylvania, specializing in group retirement and financial planning. A lifetime member of the Alumni Association and a member of the Nittany Lion Club, Lubrano served on the athletic committee during the Grand Destiny campaign Lubrano is a member of the Laurel Circle of the Mount Nittany Society as well as the Presidents Club.
Joseph “Jay” V. Paterno Jr. Paterno has experience in private equity, philanthropy, athletics, writing and media. He was one of the first college name, image and likeness (NIL) consultants in the country, and co-founded Success With Honor to support Penn State student-athletes in all 31 women’s and men’s sports. Paterno was executive producer for “THON: 50 Years for the Kids,” authored the best-selling book “Paterno Legacy” and the novel “Hot Seat,” and continues to write columns appearing in local, national and international publications. He's coached football for two decades and created shows for both radio and television, as well as participated in successful U.S. presidential campaigns and attended a White House Community Leaders Forum.
