Blueberry Season is Here! Visit Our Organic Pick-Your-Own Farm

Bridge Avenue Berries, an enchanting pick-your-own blueberry farm, enters its sixth bountiful season under the passionate care of Harry and Susan Jones. When the couple acquired the 6-acre farm in 2018, their vision was clear: to create an organic haven for families to pick luscious blueberries while nurturing a healthy ecosystem.

Facing initial challenges, such as tackling blueberry maggots due to past improper spraying practices, the resilient duo embarked on a journey to adopt organic pest control strategies. Armed with newfound knowledge from Rutgers Cooperative Extension and Marone Biological, the Joneses successfully eradicated the pesky pests and established a thriving, organic blueberry haven.

Throughout the seasons, the couple's love for nature and pollinators blossomed, leading them to create a captivating pollinator garden, fostering a habitat for native bumblebees and orchard bees. Their commitment to sustainability extends to weed control, with a transition away from chemical pesticides in favor of organic methods.

With a degree in horticulture, Harry's dream of business ownership materialized when he and Susan purchased the blueberry farm. With his his expertise, they optimized the soil's nutritional balance, creating an idyllic environment for their Bluecrop, Blueray, and Jersey blueberries, as well as charming heirloom varieties with a rich history.

Bridge Avenue Berries has become a cherished family destination, offering a delightful pick-your-own experience. The farm also extends its organic bounty to local restaurants and markets, establishing itself as a beacon of sustainable agriculture in the community.

As they mark this milestone season, the Joneses have their eyes set on the future. Thanks to a USDA grant, the farm is gearing up for a state-of-the-art subsurface drip irrigation system, further bolstering their commitment to water efficiency.

With unwavering dedication and a love for nurturing nature, Harry and Susan Jones have turned Bridge Avenue Berries into an organic sanctuary where families make cherished memories and indulge in nature's delectable gifts. The farm's journey, from humble beginnings to sustainable triumphs, serves as an inspiring testament to the power of determination and eco-friendly farming practices.
