Agribusiness insights - Pennsylvania Ag expo returns

By Blake Jackson

Pennsylvania's animal agriculture event, the PennAg Industries Association EXPO, is returning to a springtime schedule. The free educational event and trade show will be held on Tuesday, March 19th, 2024, from 7 am to 3 pm at the Lebanon Valley Expo Center and Fairgrounds.

This event targets professionals in the pork, poultry, and nutrient management sectors. Over 90 vendors will be present, showcasing the latest industry trends. Attendees can participate in educational seminars throughout the morning, some of which offer credits for professional development.

The keynote address will be presented in two parts. The first part focuses on challenges faced by young leaders taking over family businesses in the agribusiness sector. A panel discussion featuring Khalee Kreider, Margo Sechler, and Coleman Wagner will be moderated by Bill Anchor. The second part, sponsored by the PA Pork Producers, will feature an agricultural economic outlook from Erin Borror.

New to the EXPO this year is a session specifically designed for young professionals. Titled "Stepping into Ag," the session offers career tips on interviewing, networking, and building a reputation. Experts from the Wenger Group, First Citizens Bank, Stevens Feed Mill, and Paragon Poultry will share their insights, with Lisa Graybeal moderating the discussion.

The afternoon also features breakout sessions on raising lambs for market and pork quality assurance certification.

Registration for the event is free, but lunch costs $15. Registration closes on March 18th and can be done online or by phone.
