Shapiro Administration Calls for Proposals to Drive Consumer Awareness and Support Pennsylvania Agriculture
Pennsylvania Ag Connection - 05/25/2023

The state's Department of Agriculture intends to allocate up to $303,000 in matching funds to Pennsylvania-based nonprofit organizations, providing reimbursement of up to 50% of costs for promotional and educational projects. The objective is to increase consumer awareness, drive sales, and foster the growth of export opportunities for Pennsylvania's diverse agricultural sector. The final grant budget will be contingent on the 2023-24 budget approval.

Secretary Russell Redding emphasized the exceptional quality of Pennsylvania's food, fiber, and hardwood products, calling for innovative marketers and educators to help showcase the story of Pennsylvania Agriculture to consumers both locally and globally. These grants aim to connect Pennsylvania businesses with consumers, support the livelihoods of over 593,000 Pennsylvanians employed in the industry, and contribute to the state's economy while ensuring families have access to nutritious food.

PA nonprofit agricultural promotion and marketing organizations will receive grants for a range of projects, including festivals, tourism events, buy-local campaigns, and statewide promotions of Pennsylvania products. Priority consideration will be given to initiatives that promote PA PreferredĀ® hardwoods, dairy products, fruits, and vegetables; encourage agritourism, Farmers Market Nutrition Programs, and farm markets; facilitate the expansion or creation of export markets; increase food security and reduce food waste; and leverage additional private or federal funding.

Interested organizations can access the complete guidelines for the Pennsylvania Agricultural Product Promotion, Education, and Export Promotion Matching Grant Program in the Pennsylvania Bulletin published on May 20. Grant applications must be submitted online through the PA Department of Community and Economic Development Electronic Single Application by 5:00 PM on Friday, July 14, 2023. This initiative represents a vital step towards supporting Pennsylvania's agricultural industry and further solidifying its position as a leader in the market.
