US Farm AI Act Drives Future Agriculture Growth

US Farm AI Act Drives Future Agriculture Growth

By Jamie Martin

The FARM AI Act is a new bipartisan proposal aimed at improving the role of artificial intelligence in U.S. agriculture. The bill focuses on research, funding, and education to help farmers adopt new technologies and improve productivity.

The legislation supports increased investment through USDA programs to promote AI development. It identifies artificial intelligence as a key research area and encourages innovation through advanced agricultural projects. This approach is expected to drive growth in modern farming practices.

“We must ensure that America’s farmers and ranchers are not left behind in utilizing AI innovations and cutting-edge technologies to keep our food systems and rural economies strong. I’m proud to join my colleagues in introducing the FARM AI Act, because American agriculture must have access to AI advances to stay competitive in our increasingly global economy,” said Senator Schiff.

“AI technologies are advancing at a rapid pace, and if we fail to address the barriers of access to AI deployment in agriculture, America’s producers will fall behind. Precision technologies have the potential to enhance innovation and productivity in farming and ranching, but outdated USDA programs are holding this potential back from reaching our rural communities. I am proud to be leading the bipartisan FARM AI Act to unlock the untapped potential of AI technology to advance American agriculture,” said Senator Budd.

Lawmakers highlight the importance of keeping farmers competitive in a changing global market. AI tools can help improve efficiency, manage farm data, and enhance decision-making. However, access to these technologies has been limited, especially in rural communities.

To address this, the bill includes plans for farmer education and outreach. Extension programs will teach producers how to use AI tools responsibly and effectively. This will help increase awareness and adoption of these technologies across the agriculture sector.

The FARM AI Act also supports workforce development by funding training programs. These initiatives focus on artificial intelligence and precision agriculture, helping build a skilled workforce ready to use advanced farming methods.

The proposal also expands research efforts under key USDA initiatives by including AI as a major priority. It supports both basic and complex research projects to improve farming systems and develop practical solutions.

Additionally, the bill suggests appointing a senior official to guide AI efforts within USDA. This role will ensure better coordination of research, training, and outreach programs. It also promotes developing national standards for AI use in agriculture.

Overall, the FARM AI Act aims to modernize agriculture by improving access to technology and knowledge. It helps farmers adapt to new challenges while supporting long-term growth and innovation in rural communities.
