USDA Loans Open for PA Farmers

USDA Loans Open for PA Farmers

By Blake Jackson

USDA Farm Service Agency announced natural disaster assistance for eligible counties in Pennsylvania after severe weather events involving hail, rain, and high winds.  The Pennsylvania counties eligible under the contiguous disaster designation are Susquehanna and Wayne.

The designation allows qualified agricultural producers to apply for emergency loan assistance to support recovery from weather-related losses.

Emergency loans are designed to help farmers and ranchers facing financial stress after natural disasters. These funds may be used for several important recovery needs. Producers may replace damaged equipment, purchase livestock, reorganize farm operations, or refinance certain eligible debts.

USDA reviews each application based on the extent of losses, available security, and the producer’s ability to repay the loan. This process helps ensure assistance reaches farms most affected by severe weather conditions.

Susquehanna and Wayne County producers may apply if they meet USDA program requirements. Local USDA offices can provide guidance on eligibility, documents needed, and next steps in the application process.

The application deadline for emergency loan assistance is December 21, 2026. Farmers are encouraged to contact their local Farm Service Agency office as early as possible to begin the process and review available support options.

Storms that bring hail, heavy rain, and strong winds can create major challenges for agriculture. Crops may suffer yield loss, fields may experience delays, and buildings or equipment may need repairs. Unexpected weather damage can also place added pressure on farm finances.

Federal disaster programs can provide important support during difficult seasons. Access to emergency credit may help farms continue operations, recover production, and prepare for future growing cycles.

Pennsylvania farmers in eligible counties now have an opportunity to seek support and strengthen recovery efforts.
